The Cedar Rustic Colonial is an attractive, rugged, and versatile solution for your storage needs. Its solid construction allows the building to withstand heavy use in a wide variety of applications for storing items large and small, as well as for use as a workshop, for gardening activities, or as a craft studio. A number of standard features and extra options extend its functionality and its curb appeal.
This building has been featured in many fine publications and media outlets including Better Homes and Gardens, Country Living, Mother Earth News, Danny Lipford's “Today's Homeowner ”, Garden Shed, HGTV, and others.
The Cedar Rustic Colonial features a traditional design that has been tastefully updated and accented. The entire building exterior including sides, do ors, windows, & trim are made of aromatic Western Red Cedar.
Cedar's intoxicating fragrance and sensual character offer style and integrity to the structure not seen in other buildings in this price range. It is a real value!
The walls and roof rafters are residence grade 2" x 4" Douglas Fir framing to provide strength. The walls are 97 inches high and a loft can be made for additional storage. The building can also be insulated for year-round use.
The foundation is built strongly. It uses pressure treated 2"x 6" joists to withstand insects and Mother Nature. These are positioned 16" on center. Heavy duty ¾” tongue-in-grove fir plywood is placed over the floor and rim joists to form the floor. This is a substantial base for the buildings walls, roof, and contents. Douglas Fir ½” plywood sheathing is used for the roof deck; continuous ridge and soffit venting keeps the Colonial Barn ventilated. The Cedar Rustic Colonial may be built directly on a concrete slab. Its beauty and charm are more than skin deep. Heavy duty black hardware, imported from England secure and accent the doors and windows. Double strength glass is used in the transom window over front doors to complement the entrance and provide illumination.
As with any separate wood structure that stores flammable liquids, it should be located away from a domicile as prescribed by local codes.
Assembly is simple, however, strength and building skills are needed to position walls and roof. The unit can be assembled by two people over the weekend or in about twenty hours.
