The English Potting Shed is a unique building offering the very finest of design, materials, and fine craftsmanship. It is sure to appeal to the most discerning of tastes.
The English Potting Shed is a custom built structure in every detail and makes a stylish statement about your uncompromising standards. Its solid construction allows the building to withstand heavy use in a wide variety of applications. It offers many tasteful features and accoutrements. The English Potting Shed is a place of quiet relaxation and serenity. May we suggest that the English Potting Shed is perfect for use as a studio, a weekend bungalow, a private office, gardening activities, and for many other pursuits.
The English Potting Shed features a traditional design that has been tastefully updated and accented. The steep roof is of the style of the traditional English Gatehouse, and gives the building a sense of modern formality. The exterior is made entirely of aromatic Western Red Cedar . The interior is pre-wired for lighting fixtures and wall outlets, and is finished to match your tastes with waistcoat panels of fine select hardwoods.
The walls and roof rafters are residence grade 2" x 6" Douglas Fir framing to provide strength and to accommodate extra insulation. A heavy 1¾ inch solid door provides security and comfort. The walls are 97 inches high; a loft can be made for additional storage. The building is insulated for year-round use in compliance with Energy Star standards.
The foundation is built strongly. It uses pressure treated 2"x 8" joists that are positioned 16" on center for strength and to withstand Mother Nature's assaults. Heavy duty ¾” tongue-in-grove fir plywood is placed over the floor and rim joists to form the floor deck. Over this deck, flooring is applied that is made of ¾” Oak, Cherry, Walnut or other select hardwoods in 4 or 6-inch planking widths. This is a substantial base for the building's walls, roof, and contents. Douglas Fir ½” plywood sheathing is used for the roof deck over 2” x 6” rafters; continuous ridge and soffit venting keeps the English Potting Shed airy and well ventilated.
The English Potting Shed may be built directly on a concrete slab, sonotubes, a foundation wall, or piers.
In the English Potting Shed beauty and charm are more than skin deep. Heavy duty black hardware, imported from England secure and accent the doors and windows. Large windows allow for generous lighting and ventilation. You will find that the interior window seat suggests a resting spot for your favorite book or cat.
The building should be located and assembled as prescribed by local codes.
While the building can be assembled by two people over the weekend or in about thirty hours, carpentry skills are necessary because of the heavy materials used, the intricate building details, and the fine millwork finishing.
