The Chincoteague Island Cabin is as attractive as it is rugged. With its classic lines and generous windows it welcomes you to stop, relax, and linger. Solid construction throughout allows the building to withstand heavy use in a wide variety of applications. It is well suited as for a workshop, for gardening activities, or as a craft studio, cabin, home office, or a private retreat. A number of standard features and extra options extend its functionality and its curb appeal.
The Chincoteague Island Cabin features a traditional design that has been tastefully updated and accented. The f ront, sides & back are rough-sawn plywood that is primed gray in color. Doors & trim are tongue aromatic Western Red Cedar. The roof is steel with cedar shingle as an option. Large windows and a 9-lite door provide plenty of light. The features of the Chincoteague Island Cabin lend both style and integrity to the structure not seen in other buildings in this price range.
The walls and roof rafters are residence grade 2" x 4" Douglas Fir framing to provide strength. The walls are 97 inches high and a loft can be made for additional storage. The building can also be insulated for year-round use.
The foundation is built strongly. It uses pressure treated 2"x 6" joists to withstand insects and Mother Nature. These are positioned 16" on center. Heavy duty ¾” tongue-in-grove fir plywood is placed over the floor and rim joists to form the floor. This is a substantial base for the buildings walls, roof, and contents. Douglas Fir ½” plywood sheathing is used for the roof deck; continuous ridge and soffit venting keeps the Chincoteague Island Cabin ventilated.
The Chincoteague Island Cabin may be built directly on a concrete slab.
In the Chincoteague Island Cabin beauty and charm are more than skin deep. Heavy duty black hardware, imported from England secures and accents the doors and windows.
A wood structure should be located and assembled as prescribed by local codes.
Assembly effort is moderate, however, strength and building skills are needed to position walls and roof. The unit can be assembled by two people over the weekend or in about twenty hours.
